Katja Herbers is daughters of violinist Vera Beths and oboist Werner Herbers. Her childhood was spent in America accompanying her mother on tours with the chamber music group L'Archibudelli. Both of her parents got married again, with her mother marrying cellist Anner bylsma. They brought her into the world of theatre. Growing up, she had an au pair from Canada, and could learn Dutch German and English. Herbers graduated from her school, the Ignatius Gymnasium. Herbers completed her studies in psychology at Amsterdam University. In addition to doing her psychology studies, she was a student at De Trap theatre school.
